iObsessed

Katie is obsessed with the iPad.  She wants to use it 24 hours a day, and she gets M.A.D. if you take it away.  We've started to have to store it in an upper cabinet in our kitchen, because she would just take it off of the counter and hide with it if we told her she couldn't use it.  Seriously, she would sit from the minute she wakes up until we forced her to go to bed just using the iPad.  She is Steve Jobs' biggest fan.  If she can't have the iPad, she wants an iPhone to play with.  She can navigate the iPad to the Netflix app and watch Caillou.  She uses it and does sign language flash cards.  She draws shapes and letters.  While I understand she's learning, she's using her fine motor skills, blah, blah, blah she also doesn't need to be using some sort of technology every minute of the day.

The other day while I was at work, Chris put the iPad in the upper cabinet and took a shower.  When he got out?  Katie was sitting on the couch with it.  Um.... This weekend we asked her to show us how she got it.

Apparently we need to find a better hiding spot.

Our girls love the iPad too, they haven't figured out how to get it off the top of the fridge but, I bet Katie would. LOL

  4. Maaan, she is good!I don't think she has need for any gross motor therapies! Wow! I used to do the same thing to get into the kitchen cabinets. lol
Technology is a tough thing to use/take away/allow/ration...

  5. One thing you could try is putting a code on it so she can't use it even if she has it in front of her. Of course if you are like me and you get lazy one time and tell her the code because you don't want to get up and punch it in yourself you may have problems. My 5 year old daughter remembered the code :)

  7. I love your blog! I enjoy seeing how fast Katie is growing into herself and how sweet the boys are with her. I love that you keep us all posted with the day to day. Enjoy each day, they pass so quickly. Please know that I live vicariously through your blessings! I have my own, but they are grown and have left the coop.

  9. Wow Katie is quite agile! Watching this made me nervous though since 6yr old family member climbed up like that to get something out of the cabinet (which he'd done countless times) and leaned back a bit too far while opening the cabinet door and fell off landing on his elbow. He had to have surgery and pins put in it. I'm surprised more kids don't fall off backwards like he did. I told my kids the story with plenty of gruesome detail to keep them off the counter. Good luck with the ipad wars. We have a similar problem with our 4 yr old and the kindlefire, wii, & big sister's DS.

What a smart girl! I love that Katie has a family to spend Christmas with this year. I can't wait to see the pictures you post of her and her brothers with beaming smiles on Christmas morning. Clearly, the Simpsons ARE her family....and she loves her family dearly. :)
