Two More Days!

In forty-eight hours I will be getting on the plane to go get our girl.  This is the last weekend she will ever spend in an orphanage.

Henry has wanted to make a doll for Katie since we decided to adopt her.  He loves making things for people, and he has talked about this project for seriously the last 11 months.  So, of course, we started it on Thursday.  You know, four days before I leave to pick her up.....

Henry got the book "My First Sewing Book" for his birthday.

He picked this "rag doll" pattern to do.

And wanted to start it immediately, at 6:45 Wednesday morning.  We talked about it and determined that we didn't have all of the materials, nor was 15 minutes before leaving for school and work the best time to start a project, so I went after work and picked up the things we needed.

First we copied the pattern and cut out the pieces for the body, arms, and legs.  We started hand sewing the body pieces together, and quickly realized that was going to take us for.ev.er.

So we got out Henry's new sewing machine and got to work.

Last night we finished the body and the arms and legs, and stuffed them with the help of David and Jack.  After the boys went to bed, I sewed the limbs on to the body.  And we essentially had a voodoo doll.

This morning, the first thing he asked to do was work on the doll.  We sewed her hair, a shirt, a skirt, some shoes, and a bow in her hair.  Henry cut her eyes and mouth out, and we glued them on.  We have a jacket to make too, but Henry was over it at this point and wanted to take a break.

She is so, so cute.  And Henry's is so proud of himself.

He's going to bring her to the airport when Katie and I come home and give her to Katie then.  Her name is Katie Henrietta, and she's perfect!
